The Museum of Durrës is one of the oldest in our country. It was built in 1951 in a private apartment. The museum in its new building was inaugurated in 2002. It was renovated and reopened in 2015.
The Archaeological Museum of Durrës in terms of area, conception, and criteria, is the largest of our country profiled in the field of archeology.
The first floor contains few prehistoric elements while the vast majority belongs to the Hellenistic and Roman period. Over 2000 objects are exhibited in chronological order on this floor. The second floor is expected to exhibit periods from late antiquity, the medieval period and the Ottoman period. All the objects exhibited in the museum have been found in and around the city of Durres.
